Dark coloured jewel or medal issued by the Junior Missionary Church (JMC) and later by the Junior Missionary Association or 'JMA'. In the form of a cross with 'For Zeal For Christ' around its edge and the letters 'JMC/DSO' in the centre. The jewel has a bar on the ribbon for each year 1936, 1937, 1968 and 1939. The JMA member would have a book in which he recorded the names of the congregation who had pledged to give a small amount (usually the equivalent of two or more new pence) each week for the work of the JMA. Most of the congregation gave a few pence to ten or more children. At the end of each year the child was recognised for his or her efforts by receiving a Bar with, as you can see, the year inscribed on the bar. DSO stands for Distinctive Service Order.
