National Federation of Women Workers lapel badge. The National Federation of Women Workers (NFWW) was formed in 1906 by Mary MacArthur. The aim of the organisation was to promote Trade Union membership and to campaign for union protection for women, especially those in exploitative work such as sweatshops. Membership of the Federation was at its highest just before the First World War, but it was never meant to be a permanently separate organisation and was merged with the National Union of General Workers in 1921.
