World Jewish Relief was established in 1933 in order to save refugees in Europe from the Nazis. The Jewish Relief Council was part of this organisation and still operates today, helping Jewish refugees to settle in Britain and other countries. The form was intended to help find work for refugees. In this case, Martha Berdach picked up the form but never filled it in. Instead she used it to note down some directions and bus numbers and then forgot about it for many years. Martha later married Samuel Mayerson.
