King Albert Belgian School in Kensal Rise was set up follwing a request from Father Dominic Dams for elementary classes for Belgian refugee children who came to Willesden during the First World War. The school opened on 3rd April 1916 with 60 places and lessons were conducted in English, French and Flemmish. It closed in March 1919, after the children had returned to Belgium.
