Footballer is possibly Bobby Moore (England's 1966 World Cup winning captain), but more likely Bryan Robson, the Manchester United midfielder, who was an England international from 1980 to 1991, and captain from 1982.
The subway was opened in 1993, named in honour of Bobby Moore. A plaque dedicating it to the footballer was unveiled by his widow.
