Description
This photographic print is a reproduction of a sepia postcard showing a group of ladies and gentlemen (possibly Stonebridge Conservative Club) gathered in the garden of a large house in Harlesden. Some of the ladies are playing croquet while others watch. Some of the group are standing, while others sit in chairs or deckchairs or on the grass. Croquet was a very popular outdoor game in Victorian England. It allowed women the opportunity to compete on an equal footing with men. The game is still played today and remains popular.
