Patents, stockbooks,account books, photographs, correspondence and paper relating to the history of the firm. They date from the early period in Dallmeyer's history: from 1863 - 1945. Many of the account books had entries covered by large squares of brown card sewn onto the page. The purpose of this is unknown, but a possibility is that the firm wanted to keep details of some customers secret - perhaps because of a request for confidentiality or a desire to keep as much of the firm's operation confidential in a time of intense competition. The peices of card have been kept in the books, but with a side detatched so that the entries undetneath can be read.
