Description
Small ceramic vase, a piece of Goss China circular in shape with a coat of arms of Hendon on its front underneath which is written 'Cricklewood'. The base has the stamp of Arcadian china, Stoke on Trent, manufactured by A&S Stoke on Trent. It also has the text 'Model of Vase from Silchester in Reading Museum'.
Collecting decorative china became a craze in Victorian and Edwardian times when day trippers bought small ivory coloured porcelain ornaments decorated with the coat of arms of the locality to take home as a memento. Goss china was the product of the Stoke-on-Trent pottery owned by William Henry Goss. In all there are over 2,500 different models and they can be found with over 10,000 different decorations.
