- Scope and ContentThis book describes the author's personal experiences of life as a Black child being brought up in London during World War Two. The book tells the story of her grandparents - her African American grandfather came to Britain in around 1914 - and her parents and it also contrasts Suzy's upbringing in Brent with life in Nigeria where she also spent some of her childhood. The book illustrates the difficulties that children may face growing up in an alien environment, but also shows how different cultures can, and do, live amicably together.
