The certificates were issed to certify attendance of 'a Complete Course of Instruction in Laundry Work, according to the Syllabus of the Willesden Education Committee' (1924); and an 'Award...made partly for Good Conduct and Proficiency in the Secular Subjects of the School Curriculum, and partly for Regular Attendance' (1917).
The 1917 certificate states that it was awarded in lieu of a prize 'In the fourth year of the Great European War'.
